The weather in Burgas, Sozopol, and Nessebar is quite similar. The summer season is most refreshing, because of the pleasantly cooling sea breeze. The average high temperatures are between 25 - 28°C, with a record high of 33°C in 2012. The average low temperatures of 16 - 18°C still require wearing some warmer clothes.
The summer season in Bourgas is always abundant in the sunshine – you can enjoy 12 hours of the sun almost every day. Many sports, outdoor activities, and variety of other attractions are available throughout the season.
The sea temperature varies but doesn’t go below 21°C. July and August boast the warmest sea temperature at 24°C. Some people consider May to be the beginning of the beach season. Although the sea temperature at 16°C isn’t for every taste, the overall weather easily allows for great sunbathing sessions.
Numerous bars, restaurants, and venues are already open daily. If you are a fan of live music, you can enjoy some great local bands in a cool night atmosphere. The wind is always active, and it’s sometimes a bit stronger than it should be, but that’s an acceptable tradeoff for cooler days.

Winters in Burgas are mild and easy to get through. The sea doesn’t allow the temperature to go below 0°C during most of the winter, except for January. Since the climate in Bulgaria is temperate, it’s normal to expect some snowfall.
The sea temperature usually falls to about 8°C. The average air temperature is around 5°C but it varies, depending on the month. The city is nicely transformed in anticipation for the coldest months and upcoming Christmas celebrations, making winter an exciting time for visiting Burgas. December is one of the busiest shopping periods throughout the whole year. There are always relaxing spa treatments available in hotels. Although those can be enjoyed during any season, winter seems to be the most suitable time for indulging in spa procedures.
Weather in Burgas. Autumn and Spring
Weather in Burgas is perfect both in the spring and autumn. It’s neither too hot nor too cold. If you are a fan of exploration, hiking, and sports – April, May, September, and October are best months for a visit.
The average temperature at 12°C in the spring and 17°C in the autumn, with tendencies for average high temperatures at 21 - 24°C, allow for a pleasant atmosphere in Burgas.
One of the advantages of Bulgaria is that the climate inland differs from the climate on the coast, but they’re similar enough not to feel a thermal shock when traveling across the country. Early spring still carries some cold snaps from the passing winter, while the early autumn is the best time for getting around as it’s not too hot and busy anymore. September is considered a continuation of the summer, especially with the trend of rising temperatures in recent years.
